Queenstown Adventures - Part 2

We decided to get out into nature, in spite of the chilly weather, or maybe because of the chilly weather, and experience some rigorous and vigorous physical activity. So we signed up for a mountain trek up the Routeburn Trail on the Humboldt Mountain, which is part of the Southern Alps. This trek was started in the 1840's by the gold miners trying to find a passage to deliver their mining booty. Of course we didn't attempt the three-day trek, just one day of it up to the Routeburn Flats. The climb was a steady climb of 2 1/2 hours upward, very taxing which caused us bit by bit to shed part of the four layers of clothing that we were wearing (well not all of it!).The guide had provided us with a packed sandwich lunch, and after our half-way climb, the chicken sandwich tasted like a gourmet feast! En route the scenery was fantastic, the foliage was dense and beautifully unique and the crystal clear mountain springs tasted refreshing! What a beautiful handiwork of God's creation!
