Excursions Around Melbourne

We have been experiencing very hot weather as of late in Melbourne. Folks back home have had -31 degree temperatures, and we have been experiencing +31 degree temperatures! So, on the weekends, we have tried to keep cool by getting close to the water. One weekend saw us take the train out to Brighton Beach, with its renowned Brighton Beach boxes (first three pictures). The next excursion we took was to Phillip Island to see the penguins. We passed through drought-stricken areas before we arrived at the causeway, taking us across to the island (next four pictures). On another weekend we boarded a riverboat to cruise down the Yarra River to Williamstown (remaining pictures). En route we travelled under most of the bridges that link north and south Melbourne - the round bridge is a pedestrian bridge. We viewed many a beautiful panoramic outline of the city, as we passed into open water, and spied the ferry boats that travel to Tasmania. Williamstown is a quiet resort town with lots of picturesque buildings and shops on land, and with expensive yachts and sailboats on the water. Imagine our surprise to discover hundreds of hardened bikers on Harley-Davidson motorcycles invade the central street, all revving their machines at once! It was a sight and sound to behold!
