Close Encounters of the Amazing Kind - Chapter 2

Cradle Mountain National Park in the west coast of Tasmania is home to small brown, black or grey wallabies called Pademelons. We were booked to stay at a very comfortable chalet in a remote mountain area. After hiking, we returned home at dusk, just when the little creatures come out to feed. Surprisingly, a mom and her joey were feeding right outside our room. When we opened the balcony door to take a picture, they were quite unafraid of us, venturing ever closer. Their noses just reached our deck floor and they just stood there as if to pose for us. Now I know that we are not supposed to feed wild animals, but we could not resist the urge and they could not resist the crackers we offered. After a while, a third wallaby joined them and if we would stop feeding them, they would look at us with pleading brown eyes and actually make hissing noises, just like a dog would beg for food! Hence we had another encounter of the amazing kind. Enjoy the pictures!
